The CAF Alaska Wing is repainting the Harvard!
January 2, 2o18 – (Anchorage, Alaska) - The CAF’s most northern unit, the Col Mike Hunt Alaska Wing is working to repaint their assigned Harvard and are looking for interested volunteers. The aircraft is 66 years old and is long overdue for a new paint job. The project is made possible because of some recent fundraisers and increased activity/ engagement with the community. The group would like to freshen up the Harvard for the 2018 airshow season - especially for Arctic Thunder June 30 – July 1, 2018.
Chuck Miller and the crew at Chaz Aero Aircraft Refinish have generously donated a huge amount of shop time, materials and labor to jump start the project, but the group is still looking for supporters to finish the job.
The $60,000 paint job should end up costing the Alaska Wing $25-$30 thousand, with the cost depending on work required to make repairs if damage is discovered during stripping the aircraft of many layers of paint.
The local group has $15,000 pledged and is seeking another $15,000 to ensure that they can finish the job quickly. Just as important as funding the group is in need of people to help with the labor to polish the airplane to prep for paint this week Tuesday, January 2nd through Sunday January 7th. The laborers need not have any special skills or certifications, just a desire to assist. They will need 2-4 people per day for a full work day of polishing and scrubbing to get the airplane prepped.
