Commemorative Air Force Central Texas Wing Hosts Salute to Veterans and D-Day Memorial Event
(May 30, 2018, San Marcos, Texas)- The Commemorative Air Force Central Texas Wing, a World War II aviation organization, will host a Salute to Veterans and D-Day Memorial Event on June 6, 2018 at the San Marcos Regional Airport from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will observe the 74th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion of France by featuring a C-47 aircraft named That’s All, Brother, which led the Allied invasion.
The event will be the official launch of the effort to return That’s All, Brother to Normandy for the 75th anniversary of D-Day in June 2019. Three years ago, historians discovered the historic aircraft abandoned and about to be scrapped for parts. Since then, hundreds of supporters have contributed to the monumental restoration of the iconic aircraft with the final goal to return That’s All, Brother to Normandy.
“The Commemorative Air Force mission is to maintain these historic aircraft in flying condition as a living tribute to those who fought and died for our freedom,” said Central Texas Wing Leader Joe Enzminger. “The story of That’s All, Brother’s contribution to the war, it’s rediscovery, rebirth, and planned return to Europe aligns perfectly with our mission to honor our veterans and ensure the memory of their sacrifice is not forgotten.”
This free event will be open to the public.
