Lloyd G Wagner

This is to remember Uncle Lloyd Wagner. He is the uncle I never knew. He was known as "Hercules" on the school playground. This earned him the "right" carry the mortar gun and ammunition when he arrived in Italy to help defeat Hitler. He gave his life there to preserve the world. Dad, Lloyd's next younger brother in a large farming family was also stationed in Italy, but as a pilot of a B24J bomber.

When Dad got word of his loss, he desired to go see his brother's grave even though there was Army policy against it. The chaplain said "You go do it Bill.". So he did. Uncle Lloyd came home and buried in his home town on Wisconsin. Dad survived 18 bombing missions when life expectancy of a crew was 12 missions. That truly was "The Greatest Generation".

Wagner had the rank of Private First Class in the U.S. Army, service number assignment was 36241134. He was Killed In Action in 1944. For his service he was awarded a Purple Heart.
