2nd Lt. Jimmie Dean Alexander
I wish to remember my 1st cousin, 2nd LT. JIMMIE DEAN ALEXANDER, BOMBARDIER, 529th BS, 380th BG, 5th AF. Jimmie joined the military in January, 1943, and became a bombardier stationed in Australia. I never knew him of course but think he would have been a great asset to the nation if he had survived. His plane, a B-24 bomber, Squaw Peak, was bombed by a plane above on 15APR45, friendly fire. He was 23. I’m not sure my mother knew this as she always said he was shot down. He was her nephew. The nose gunner told me Jimmie helped get him out but then went back into his compartment for some reason and never got out. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart; RIP, Jimmie.
