CAF Welcomes Brenda Townsend as new Director of Education

**Dallas, July 16, 2020 **– This month the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) announced the addition of Brenda Townsend as the Director of Education position at its Dallas Headquarters. Brenda joins the CAF with 30-years of experience as a public-school educator where her focus was to provide student-centered, inquiry-based lessons, particularly in the subjects of science and math. She went on to serve as a teacher trainer and a Math & Science Strategist, leading campus administrators and staff to create, implement and monitor effective lessons for student content mastery.

Brenda has designed and implemented a variety of content-integrated science programs for PreK-12 students with a heavy focus on creating hands-on learning experiences. As Director of Education, Brenda will play an integral role in developing and implementing CAF Education programs for in-person programs at the Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center and online programs and resources.

Her philosophy is that the best way to connect students with learning is by doing. A philosophy shared by the CAF Vice President of Education, Nancy McGee. “This is an exciting time to bring Brenda onboard to join our CAF Education Team. She has the ability to write lessons that engage and involve students in real life learning. And that fits perfectly with the mission of the CAF. Brenda will be a tremendous asset to our team because she understands the impact and unique learning opportunities the CAF is able to provide for teachers and students.”

“I am very enthusiastic about getting started developing programs and resources for the CAF. I know how much schools, parents, and communities across the country want educational material like this. We will see a tremendous interest in CAF education programs and I am thrilled to be part of introducing a new generation of people to historic aviation,” said Brenda.

This year the CAF education team has built up a website full of free resources for parents and teachers of all levels to use that are all related to aviation. In addition, they have added live presentations and recorded presentations on a variety of topics. In the near future, with the completion of the National Aviation Education Center at Dallas Executive Airport, in-person programs and field trips will hopefully start sometime in 2021, once the building is complete.
