Rocky Mountain Wing Hosts Spring Open House

Grand Junction, CO (June 2, 2023)- The CAF Rocky Mountain Wing hosted a Spring Open House at their Grand Junction Airport Hangar and Museum facility on May 13, where they welcomed visitors to come and see their assigned aircraft and museum. This year, the wing was happy to show off their newly powered World War II Torpedo Bomber, the TBM Avenger 309, and they offered living history flights with their Piper J-3 NE-1, a World War II Primary Pilot training aircraft.

Rocky Mountain Wing members worked hard to prepare the hangar, aircraft, and museum for this event, and thanks to local promotion, they had a steady flow of visitors throughout the day. In addition to seeing the aircraft, visitors had the opportunity to take a “wing walk” over TBM Avenger 309’s starboard wing and talk to the many knowledgeable volunteers about the aircraft’s history and mission of the Commemorative Air Force.

The Rocky Mountain Wing has created incredible radial engine noise over the valley for over 30 years. This event was a great way to reintroduce the organization to the Grand Valley community of Colorado.
