(Dallas, July 3, 2020) – On Saturday, July 4th the Commemorative Air Force B-29 Superfortress FIFI *based in Dallas and A-26 *Lady Liberty, based in Oklahoma, will be honoring our country’s independence by participating in the 2020 Salute to America Flyover at the National Mall in Washington DC. The Independence Day Celebration in the Nation’s Capital will include multiple flight demonstrations from different branches of our military, in particular the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, and a monumental firework display. Military flyovers above the National Mall and across the District are scheduled for approximately 6:45 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
These aircraft will join many other Commemorative Air Force aircraft from across the country participating in a July 4th event, a nationwide program, entitled United We Fly- Fourth of July. About a dozen cities are participating in United We Fly- Fourth of July, including cities in Texas, California, Minnesota, and others. “Fourth of July is such a notable date in our country’s rich history. This year, more than ever, it’s important that we come together, arm in arm, to celebrate the values our country stands for – freedom, equality, human rights, inclusivity, and diversity,” said Hank Coates, President, Commemorative Air Force. “We hope people will step outside, look up, and join us for a few minutes of reflection on this national holiday,” continued Coates.
B-29 Squadron Leader Jonathan Oliver said “Our goal is to get as many of these iconic World War II airplanes in the air at the same time across the country in a salute to America’s 244th Birthday. Even though the cost and effort to maintain these aircraft is extremely high, we are committed to preserving this history and contributing to honoring our country in every way possible.”
People are encouraged to share any videos or images captured of the flyover on social media.
