CAF Headquarters Welcomes New Members to Operations Team

DALLAS, Texas (May 29, 2025)— As the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) launches its 2025 flying season, the organization is pleased to announce the addition of several talented individuals to its Operations Team at CAF Headquarters. These new team members bring decades of experience and a deep commitment to advancing safety, operational excellence, and aviation heritage.

CAF Chief Aviation Officer Jim Lasche emphasized the significance of this expertise, stating, “It is incredibly important and helpful to have people on staff who bring not only extensive flight and operations experience in General Aviation, but also a deep understanding of the unique needs of the CAF community. Their insights and passion for our mission will be invaluable as we continue to grow and refine our operations.”


Headshot of TJ Cook TJ Cook steps in as Director of Operations. An active member of the CAF since 1985, Cook previously served as a U.S.A.F. Air Force One Command Pilot and as Operations Officer for the Central Texas Wing. He currently flies multiple CAF aircraft and has contributed to the CAF’s StanEval Committee for the past four years.


Headshot of John Lohmar John Lohmar has been named Director of Safety. A longtime CAF Life Member, Lohmar brings over 40 years of experience in Part 121 Flight Operations Training and Standards, including 15 years as an Aircrew Program Designee (APD). His extensive leadership in both commercial and corporate aviation has focused on operational safety and cultivating a robust safety culture. Lohmar has also served on the CAF’s StanEval Committee for the past 15 years.


Headshot of Sam Walters Dr. Sam Walters, Ph.D., has been appointed Director of Ground Safety. Walters brings over 30 years of leadership in occupational safety and has served as a CAF Marshaller since 1997. His work has already helped increase flight line safety, and he will now lead efforts to develop resources and guidance for CAF units on ground safety best practices.


CAF President/CEO David Oliver remarked, “These individuals bring a wealth of knowledge, proven leadership, and a passion for aviation that will help us ensure a safe, efficient, and exciting flying season in 2025. We’re thrilled to welcome them to our team.”
