AV-8B Harrier Jump Jet Coming to CAF Airbase Arizona Museum This June

MESA, Arizona (May 23, 2025)— The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Airbase Arizona Museum is thrilled to announce the arrival of a major new addition to its collection: the iconic AV-8B Harrier jump jet, scheduled to arrive on June 10, 2025, weather and logistics permitting.

The AV-8B Harrier, renowned for its revolutionary Vertical/Short Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) capabilities, will be displayed on long-term loan from the United States Marine Corps. Often described as the aircraft that made VTOL a household name, the Harrier’s ability to launch from short runways or small ships has made it an essential part of Marine Corps aviation since the 1980s.

Accompanying the Harrier’s arrival is a spare Rolls-Royce Pegasus engine, which will be added to the museum’s impressive engine display. This iconic engine, specifically designed to power the Harrier, is integral to the aircraft’s vertical lift capability and unique maneuverability. CAF Airbase Arizona Museum Director Ed McGuire shared his excitement, stating, “This is a tremendous opportunity to share a piece of aviation history that captured the imagination of pilots and the public alike. The Harrier represents a significant chapter in military aviation, and we’re honored to display it here.”

About the AV-8B Harrier Jump Jet:
The AV-8B Harrier is a second-generation VTOL aircraft developed from the British Hawker Siddeley Harrier. It first flew in 1981 and entered service with the U.S. Marine Corps in 1985. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Pegasus engine, the Harrier’s innovative design allows it to hover, take off, and land vertically—capabilities that have proven invaluable in expeditionary operations, particularly during the Gulf War and in subsequent conflicts.
