Hamilton was one of the first pilots to enter enemy airspace on D-Day. His mission was to drop Pathfinders from the 82nd Airborne Division before the main airborne invasion. A Pathfinder himself, Hamilton later dropped paratroopers during Operation Dragoon in Southern France and Operation Market Garden over Holland. Hamilton continued his service as a bomber pilot during the Korean War.
