The Fairchild Model 24 was a four-seat, single-engine, high-wing monoplane that became one of the most successful light utility aircraft of the late 1930s and during World War II. Originally developed for the civilian market, it featured a rugged design and excellent short-field performance, making it well suited for military service. During World War II, it served with the U.S. Army Air Forces as the UC-61 and with the Royal Air Force in transport, liaison, and communications roles.
The aircraft evolved from the Kreider-Reisner Model 24C, introduced in 1933. After renaming the company the Fairchild Aircraft Corporation in 1935, Sherman Fairchild continued refining the design, introducing several improved variants powered by Ranger and Warner engines. Its reliability, versatility, and ease of operation made the Model 24 a favorite among civilian pilots and military operators alike.
